How to Check Windows logs for Disk Scan results

When you set a disk scan away on a windows system disk using the windows 'scan disk' utility, you are required to reboot the computer so that the scan can run in the pre-boot environment. This can take well over an hour to do in some cases so in most cases you will not see tha scan results before the computer starts up, and you have to go looking for them yourself. Here is how to do it.

Windows XP

• Click on 'Start Menu'
• Right Click 'My Computer' and select 'Manage'
• Select 'Event Viewer'
• Double Click the 'Application' log
• Look for the latest event whose 'source' is 'winlogon,' this will show the results of the test you have just run.

If there are bad sectors /files then your hard disk may be about to die so back it up straight away and replace the disk.
